What will I get by hitting, defending, and running for 40 minutes each for 20 days?"

Manager Lee attended the team's opening ceremony held at the Olympic Memorial Hall of Masan Baseball Center on the 3rd. He made a strong determination ahead of his first season as a manager.

NC will start its spring camp from July 25. After the first turn at its home stadium, Changwon NC Park, it will move to Tucson, Arizona in the U.S. for its full-fledged training. During the period, Lee plans to introduce an unfamiliar training method. The team will conduct efficient training by separating key players from specialists.

Main players engage in training in the way they usually do. They improve their skills in all areas of hitting, defense and base running. However, specialists who have to show flashes of movements in the latter half of the game are different. The training is conducted according to individual players' characteristics. The team plans to focus on only one area for morning, afternoon and night training.

Lee mentioned infielder Kim Han-byul and Han Jae-hwan and outfielder Kim Bum-joon as representative players. Kim Han-byul, who boasts strong defense capabilities, only participates in defense training throughout the spring camp. There is no time to train batting. On the contrary, Han Jae-hwan and Kim Bum-joon, who show off their talents in batting, only rotate their bat all day long, focusing on improving their batting performance.

On the unique training method, Lee said, "I was not good at defense and base running when I was active. Even when I got on base, I didn't even get a sign for stealing. So I thought to myself, 'Why should I train defense and base running?' Rather, I focused more on hitting and increased the weight of my team. "(Kim) Han-byul has no batting training because he is trying to use it as a backup player in the defense field," adding, "(Kim) Bum-joon and (Han) Jae-hwan, pinch-hitting specialists, only hit in the morning, afternoon, and night. Camp period is 20 days. What kind of things will they do in 40 minutes each for hitting, defense, and base running? It would be more efficient for the players we are trying to use to do at least one thing properly. We also take the time to conduct batting training anyway, even if we don't have to ask them to do it separately."

Manager Lee expressed his expectation that this method will work, recalling Shin Min-jae (LG Twins), who he coached while coaching.

"(Shin) Min-jae was just a pinch runner for the first time. He put more emphasis on running base (in training). Nevertheless, he practices hitting at night. When it comes to running base, Shin is the No. 1 player. As a result, he was able to stay in the first team and received an opportunity. He needs to be unrivaledly good at something. I want to have the best players in Korea, not the best in the team. If he shows off his batting ability when he gets the chance, he can become a starting player like Min-jae," he said.

If coach Lee's training method produces results as planned, NC can gain great strength. He devised a groundbreaking method to create a scene in which Kim Han-byul instilled stability in the infield with a solid defense in the second half of a tight game, and to create a picture in which pinch hitter resources Kim Bum-joon and Han Jae-hwan hit long balls in a clutch situation to give victory.
